What You Expect To Hear
The pipe organ is often called the king of instruments due to its ability to create a myriad of sounds but many churches are moving towards contemporary music for services. Along with this move away from organ music is a general decline in the number of organists. According to the National Association of Schools of Music, in 1998-99 there were 303 undergraduate majors. In the 2011-12, it was 182. In Columbia, Missouri four organists share why the organ is still important to not only the church, but to their spiritual lives.
